Replacing RV Water Pumps; Do it Yourself ShurFlo Remove and Installation
Executive Summary by Lance Winslow
Generally water is delivered when hooked up in an RV park by a garden hose into your coach. Of course then you must have a water pump usually electric in most all RVs to get the water to your shower and faucets. Unfortunately, these little temperamental devices, electric water pumps, do not last forever.
The most common pumps for RVs are the Shurflo models, which put out low volumes of water to help you not burn thru your water supply too fast. Replacing your water pump should not be too difficult and I recommend doing this yourself.
Water pumps seem to last about 1.5 years before needing replacement and they are relatively simple to install. I recommend installing a new one when you RV fresh water storage tanks are empty to help prevent dynamic pressure from flooding your work area during the removal and installation process.
Take the outlet hose off second and the inlet hose off the old unit last. Good luck on your install.

Water pumps either fail by leaking from the weep hole, bearings can fail or in rare cases the impeller can come apart.
Ten Tips to Change a Water Pump
1. If equipped, remove the fan, fan clutch and shroud.
2. If the water pump you are changing is driven by a timing belt, consider changing it and the hydraulic tensioner if applicable.
3. Remove other components as necessary to access the water pump.
4. *As the bolts and brackets are removed, they should be placed onto a service cart in order and a quick note written to make re-installation easier.
5. *On transverse mounted engines when there is not much clearance, many times a floor jack with a block of wood can be used under the oil pan to raise lower the engine as needed to make accessing bolts and other components easier.
6. If removing a timing belt, be sure of the timing marks before disassembly.
7. Remove the water pump bolts, take note of possible different lengths.
8. Remove the pump from the engine and clean the gasket material from the timing cover.
9. If the water pump uses a rubber seal there will be less clean up necessary.
10. After re-assembly the use of a Lisle fill funnel will help purge the air from the system.
